EnvironmentEnvironmentally Friendly Products
Basic Approach
Nihon Parkerizing has thousands of production engineering and processing technologies for various household products, automobiles, construction, and other purposes. We are committed to developing environmentally friendly products, aiming to solve environmental issues at the production stage and the stage of customer use to “effectively use limited resources and realize an affluent, sound society.”
Showcasing Environmentally Friendly Products
PALLUCIDReduction of LCA and industrial waste
Zirconium surface treatment chemical, which replaces iron phosphate and zinc phosphate, reduces LCA (lifecycle assessment: estimation by Nihon Parkerizing) by approx. 70%- CO2/m2 compared to conventional zinc phosphate treatment chemicals. In addition, it contains no phosphorus, nickel, or manganese. It generates less than 10% of sludge compared to the previous treatment, a significant reduction.
* The reduction amount differs according to the conditions of the treatment environment.
FINELUBEReduction of energy use, GHG emissions, and industrial waste
FINELUBE is a next-generation, single-component lubricant that replaces phosphate and metal soap. It enables a 60% LCA (lifecycle assessment: estimation by Nihon Parkerizing) and GHG emissions reduction, reduction of water consumption with the elimination of water rinse processes, reduction of energy consumption with treatment occurring at ambient to low temperature, and zero sludge.*
* The reduction amount differs according to the conditions of the treatment environment.
Electrocautery scalpelReduction in industrial waste
Remanufacturing single-use medical devices reduces medical and welfare waste by 515,000 tonsannually.*
* The remanufacturing of single-use medical devices means a manufacturer and distributor collect the devices after they are used, treat the used devices through processes such as inspection, cleaning, and sterilization (remanufacturing), and redistribute them.
PALCOAT (CT)Hexavalent-chromium-free chemical
PALCOAT (CT), a temporary rust inhibitor used mainly for steel sheets to prevent rust, is an environmentally friendly product that contains no hexavalent chromium, a substance restricted under the RoHS Directive. When the RoHS Directive was enacted, products containing hexavalent chromium were the mainstream. We focused on the environmental impact of those chemicals. We commercialized PALCOAT (CT) ahead of competitors using technological seeds that we had accumulated.
FINELUBE(FL-E)Reduction of energy, GHG emissions and industrial waste
The conventional lubrication system used in cold forming (PALBOND/PALUBE series) generates considerable industrial waste, consumes a great deal of energy, and requires long lead times. FINELUBE (FL-E), a coating-type lubricant that we developed, features simple coating and drying processes that significantly reduce industrial waste and lead time while maintaining the same performance as conventional products. FINELUBE is also a breakthrough product that reduces GHG emissions by reducing energy consumption.
Soft-nitriding treatmentReduction of cyanogen compounds
In the salt bath soft nitriding process*, we have been promoting the reduction of the environmental impact by switching to low-cyanide salt baths and oxidizing salt baths by reviewing the composition of the salt bath. In the past, highly toxic cyanide compounds were used in salt baths for soft-nitriding. However, using salt baths that do not contain cyanide compounds and appropriately changing salt bath composition enables the reduction of cyanide compounds generated due to treatment to around 1/10 of that generated by conventional technologies.
*In the cyanate-based salt bath soft-nitriding treatment, cyanide compounds are generated during the reaction even if a cyanide-free salt bath is used as a raw material.
Fluorine-free aluminum (alloy) treatment systemReduction of fluorine compounds
In recent years, aluminum substrates have increasingly been adopted to reduce the weight and increase the strength of automotive bodies and parts, as fuel-efficient technology is required for automobiles. Our current treatment technologies use a phosphate conversion coating system containing a fluorine compound since the outermost surface of the aluminum alloy has a solid, stable oxide layer formed on it. However, it has been required to reduce the use of harmful fluorine compounds. Therefore, we are studying appropriate pretreatment prior to phosphate treatment so that fluorine compounds can be eliminated from phosphate chemicals.
PLATECOILEnergy conservation and GHG reduction
The Platecoil is a heat exchanger made from a steel plate with a trapezoid fluid flow pattern embossed into it. Heat exchange involves allowing the heat medium (e.g., vapor, heat transfer oil) or refrigerant (e.g., water, chilled liquid, CFCs) to pass through an embossed sheet to heat or cool an object (e.g., raw material, liquid solution) that contacts the lateral surface.
The product is mainly used in heat management systems in the chemical, food and semiconductor industries. It is also gradually finding uses as an environment-friendly component of waste heat-powered devices.
In recent years, we have collaborated with local municipalities in the development of a gas cylinder device that facilitates efficient energy use. The Platecoil heats the gas inside a cylinder, enabling maximal gas use with very little gas remaining in the cylinder. Cooling the gas enables the efficient and stable filling of the cylinder.
